what happens when we really pay attention?

a two-day workshop with Katia Skylar

what happens when we really pay attention?

When: 20 October 16:00–19:00 & 22 October 16:00–19:00(20) 2026
Where: Oranssi (Helsinki, Kaasutehtaankatu 1 Building 11)

This workshop is an invitation to see yourself and everything around you through movement, stillness, and devoted attention. Together, we will observe, interact, listen, and taste the elements in our immediate surroundings, exploring how they affect our inner landscape. We will move, sweat a little, and slow down into moments of radical stillness. Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. As some exercises may take place outdoors (weather permitting), we also recommend bringing warm layers. During the workshop we will explore tools from butoh, physical theatre, and spoken word. We will also work with touch and gaze, always with respect for each other's boundaries.

Participation requires a commitment to both workshop days, as the sessions build on one another.

Workshop schedule

Day 1. Tuesday, 20 October, 16:00–19:00. Introductory games and getting to know yourself through reflecting in others and surrounding environment. This session will take place primarily indoors.

Day 2. Thursday, 22 October, 16:00–19:00 + possible performative sharing at 19.30-20.00. Deepening our interactions, opening ourselves to the outside world, and exploring performativity indoors and outdoors (depending on the weather).

Towards the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to create and share a collective improvised performance. You are welcome to take part as a performer, a support team member, or simply as an audience. If the group decides not to perform, we will simply skip this part. If it takes place, the performance will begin at approximately 19:30 and last around 30 minutes.

No previous experience is required, only openness, curiosity, and a willingness to step a little outside your comfort zone.

Participation fee: €0
